" standing near their truck with the first dollar they earned in the store business. The place of business was the same building that Jack Kyle's beer joint was in Flatts (Naoma). The building is no longer there. It was next door to Glen Dale 's store and post office."
Harley Walker at his 76th Birthday.
" Harley Walker born on July 4, 1906 in Steel Trap, WV. Married Maude Miller from a coal mining town in 1926. Worked in the coal mines for many years. >>>>>>was a business man, which ran a grocery store in Naoma,WV beer hall , pool hall, and ice cream stand while trying to raise 8 children. Then one day he decided the school bus driver job was for him. Mr. Walker was a dedicated bus driver, as to the extent when his and Maude's youngest daughter was to be born; she had to get someone else to take her to the hospital as their was no one else to take his place. He told her he would see her at the end of the day. Harley drove for many years for the Negro school in Montcoal. He never missed a day, was a great person and lots of fun. When Maude came down with cancer, he could and would be there to drive that bus every day and evening. Maude passed away 1960, the day after his birthday. Shortly afterwards He married Anna Spradling. They both had lost their spouses and attended the Naoma Methodist Church. Harley continued to drive the school bus until he retired from Raleigh County School System. He passed away in 1983 while living in Danville, WV." Betty Russell
